ECBS in partnership with Perse Technology Ltd is participating in the
Winter 2023/24 National Grid ESO Demand Flexibility Service to support our
energy network this coming winter and beyond.
What is it?
The Demand Flexibility Service (DFS) has been developed to allow National Grid
Energy System Operator (ESO) to access additional flexibility when the national
demand is at its highest – often during peak winter days – to date this flexibility
has not been accessible to the ESO in real-time.
This relatively new innovative service will allow industrial and commercial users as
well as residential consumers, (through suppliers or aggregators), to be
financially incentivised and rewarded to voluntarily “flex” the time they use their
electricity.
Our partner
ECBS has partnered with Perse Technology (Perse), to provide access to the DFS
scheme for our customers. Perse has passed rigorous National Grid checks and
has been selected as one of the key aggregators in the scheme, which initially
trialled in the Winter of 2022/23.
Who can participate?
Any customer with electricity meters which are half-hourly settled (i.e. profile
00), plus SMETS 1 & 2 type meters, can participate in the scheme via Perse.
What does it entail?
1. National Grid ESO will inform DFS Aggregators of the system’s need for
consumers to reduce consumption.
2. Perse Technology will send an event signal via email twenty-four hours before
a DFS “test” event and within a day for a live “event”
3. In the Winter of 2023/24 there will be 12 “test” events” and an unknown number
of “live” events
4. Customers will be paid for both test and live events.
It is down to you to make your best endeavours to reduce your consumption on
the event day likely between 16:00hrs and 19:00hrs.
5. Perse will send email reminders at set intervals during the event day and notify
you via a newly developed DFS dashboard “Platform”.
6. Perse will transfer the funds you have earned via an innovative “wallet
Platform” developed in conjunction with Nat West bank.
7. These funds will be available in your “wallet” on the day National Grid pay
Perse.
8. This Platform will also provide you with a dashboard detailing how much energy you have reduced and how much money you have earned.
How much can you earn?
You can earn upwards of £ 2.10 kWh of electricity reduction.
The calculation of what you have reduced will be assessed on how much energy
you have consumed over the previous 10 days during a similar time period of an
event.
Is there a cost to participate?
There are no upfront costs to participate. Perse will retain 30% of the financial
benefit generated by your demand reduction for any given event.
Are there any penalties if you do not reduce demand?
There are no penalties if you do not reduce demand. You simply do not gain any
benefit. You will receive no charges from Perse.
How do you register?
We will initially register the meters on your behalf and request a DFS account for
the nominated person within your company. You will then receive a login email and you will be able to log in and view the event and wallet details via the Perse
Customer Portal URL.
